The South Carolina women's basketball is busy preparing for the upcoming 2026-27 season, which tips off in a few months. In the meantime, head coach Dawn Staley is busy preparing for the future on the recruiting trail.
On Wednesday evening, the Gamecocks offered a pair of guards from the class of 2027. Ashley MacCalla, who is a teammate of fellow South Carolina targets GG Banks and Taylor Brown, who also hold Gamecock offers. She is rated as a five-star by 247Sports, and ranked as the nation's No. 6 overall shooting forward in the country.
From her home state of Virginia, she is the No. 3 overall prospect, and rated 27th nationally. Banks has already said that she will take a visit to South Carolina soon, so it's entirely possible that the Gamecocks could be hosting MacCalla on the same visit.
South Carolina also extended an offer to guard Kaylor Buse, who is from West Linn, Oreg. She is rated as a four-star by ESPN, but does not have a 247Sports page just yet.
Both offers were first reported by Gamecock Central's Chris Wellbaum. Per GC, Buse averaged 15.2 points with 6.2 rebounds, 5.2 assists, and 2.6 steals per game last season as a junior, adding 1.3 blocks per contest. She has been an all-state player for each of the last two seasons, and won the Defensive Player of the Year Award for her travel club, Northwest Select.
Dawn Staley to host a pair of 2027 5-stars as Gamecocks look for more recruiting wins
South Carolina's 2027 class does not yet have any commitments at this time, but it is still quite early in the cycle. With the upcoming visits and offers the Gamecocks have in coming weeks, that could change pretty soon.
The Gamecocks are looking to have a big season in 2026-27, led by returning stars in Joyce Edwards, Tessa Johnson and Chloe Kitts. The Gamecocks also signed Jordan Lee from Texas via the transfer portal, as well as landing five-star former Tennessee signee Oliviyah Edwards.
