One of the top running backs in the Class of 2026 is on the market again, and South Carolina is back in the race for his commitment. Amari Thomas, a four-star RB out of Blountstown High School in Florida, has decommitted from Florida State on Friday afternoon. His decision comes just days after Thomas told 247Sports that he planned to make a final commitment decision on August 9. “This process, it is stressing me out,” Thomas said earlier this week. “It’s a lot of schemes that go into this recruiting process and I just want to know where the real at.” His decommitment was announced by Hayes Fawecett on social media around 12:30 p.m. Friday.
South Carolina is one of the programs that made a strong impact on Thomas during his recruitment. The six-foot, 95-pound playmaker took an official visit to Columbia during the weekend of May 30. Thomas was also on campus earlier this spring for an unofficial visit during practice. “They had a good season. They have good coaches up there,” Thomas said of the Gamecocks. “It’s an all-around thing up there.”

Thomas is ranked as the No. 27 running back in the Class of 2026 cycle, according to 247Sports. He holds 28 offers, some from several top programs across the SEC as well as other programs outside the league. With Thomas' recruitment now wide open again, expect South Carolina to remain in pursuit as Shane Beamer and his staff look to continue to build momentum for another top-tier recruiting class.
