Are South Carolina's Jacarrius Peak, Dylan Stewart playing? Latest injury status vs. Mississippi State

The South Carolina Gamecocks are looking to improve to 3-0 on the season, as SEC play begins with Mississippi State on Saturday afternoon. 

One of the biggest questions surrounding head coach Shane Beamer's team heading into the matchup is the health of Gamecock stars in left tackle Jacarrius Peak and EDGE rusher Dylan Stewart. 

On Thursday evening, Coach Beamer stated on his radio show that he expects both guys to be able to play "barring any setbacks" before Saturday. The news came on both guys being listed on South Carolina's injury report earlier this week, but listed as "probable." 

Are Jacarrius Peak and Dylan Stewart cleared to play against Mississippi State?

On Friday evening, South Carolina and MSU released their final availability reports ahead of the game. Peak and Stewart were taken off the list of players injured, meaning both were fully cleared to take the field on Saturday afternoon. 

Neither Peak nor Stewart played in South Carolina's first two games against Kent State and Towson. Both Gamecock stars have been working the last several months rehabbing back from their respective injuries. 

Peak suffered a knee injury in February he sustained off the field while playing basketball. Stewart, per Beamer, played through what the head coach described as "basically a broken back "for the majority of last season. While both guys were trending in the right direction across the last several weeks, they only started practicing in full pads just last week.

Neither guys played in spring ball or were fully cleared for practice during fall camp, so getting both back just in time for SEC play comes in just the right time. And as an added bonus, starting center Carter Miller, who was listed on the report earlier this week, is no longer on it, clearing him to play.

While South Carolina has looked solid in games against Kent State and Towson, there's no secret that both teams were lesser competition. Mississippi State has started 2-0 on the season, and are coming off of a 38-13 road victory over Minnesota. MSU star quarterback Kamario Taylor has looked great in his first two games, so Stewart getting after him and collapsing the pocket will be key in this one. 

While true freshman Darius Gray has performed well starting in place of Peak, getting the Honorable All-ACC left tackle back to protect Sellers is huge. As both guys make their long-awaited returns to Williams-Brice Stadium, Gamecocks fans will surely give them a warm welcome. 

South Carolina will kickoff against Mississippi State at 4:15 p.m., and the game will air live on SEC Network.
