One of the most explosive running backs in the 2026 recruiting class is set to announce his decision today, and South Carolina is right in the mix of it. Four-star Blountstown, Florida running back Amari Thomas is expected to reveal his commitment today around 4 p.m. ET. The Gamecocks are among the final four schools in contention for his commitment alongside Colorado, Georgia Tech, and former pledge Florida State.

At 5-foot-10 and 178 pounds, Thomas rushed for an impressive 1,880 yards and 34 touchdowns as a junior. He also averaged 12.3 yards per carry. That kind of production on the field alone tells you why South Carolina has been heavily invested in his recruitment. Despite Thomas being committed to FSU for part of the summer, Thomas has remained a top priority for Gamecocks head coach Shane Beamer and his staff.

Rated as a four-star recruit by Rivals and the No. 1 running back in the class, Thomas has the type of phsyicality and speed that could thrive in the SEC. While some recruiting sites vary on his national ranking there is no doubt that Thomas has what it takes to be a game-changer in Columbia.

“South Carolina should be a playoff team,” Thomas told Rivals earlier this month. “They should have got in last year. I loved the official visit, and it was at nighttime.”

On Friday afternoon, the Gamecocks will know if their work and the relationship they have built with Thomas has paid off. Commitment is set for 4 p.m. ET.
