One of the biggest question marks surrounding the South Carolina Gamecocks during the 2026 college football season is head coach Shane Beamer's future.
Despite the sixth-year coach being a beloved figure in Columbia, with a 30-33 overall record, and two losing seasons during his tenure, including a 4-8 mark in 2025, he is coaching to keep his job in 2026.
With that in mind, let's take a look at Shane Beamer's contract with the Gamecocks as the 2026 season kicks off just days from now.
Shane Beamer South Carolina contract
Shane Beamer is in his sixth season with the Gamecocks. His initial contact with South Carolina, signed in December 2020, was a five-year deal, with an annual salary of $2.75.
But after South Carolina had a 9-4 finish in 2024, which is Beamer's best finish since he has been the head coach at South Carolina, he received a new contract extension that included a hefty pay raise. That season, South Carolina also had an outside shot at making the College Football Playoff.
In January 2025, Beamer signed a new contract with the school that increased his annual salary to $8.15 million, including several incentives. The contract extension gave him another five years, putting him through the 2030 season.
The extension was given to Beamer under former South Carolina athletic director Ray Tanner. Tanner hired Beamer back in 2020, so current South Carolina athletic director Jeremiah Donati doesn't have any specific hiring ties to Beamer.
What is Shane Beamer's buyout?
Although full coaching buyout figures aren't expected to be released until later this year, Beamer's buyout as of December 2025 was $27,903,958, per the USA Today's coaching salary database.

South Carolina's Board of Trustees met earlier this month to amend his current contract, but that was merely to channel some of his income to an LLC he created.
Since it has been nine months since that figure was released, you can expect the number to be slightly lower, somewhere between the $26-27 million mark.
In an interview this offseason with The Post & Courier, he admitted to the newspaper that he realizes he is on the hot seat in 2026:
“I just think it’s the profession that I chose," Beamer told the newspaper. "You look at any coach in the country, especially in the SEC because of the intensity in this league, if you don’t have a good season the year before, you’re immediately on the hot seat the next year. It is what it is.”
Beamer has done all the right things this offseason, from hiring offensive coordinator Kendal Briles to landing several talented guys via the transfer portal. But only time will tell if it's enough for him to keep his job in 2026.
