A'ja Wilsons scores 33 points as Aces get first win over Liberty this season

For WNBA teams across the league, teams are expected to take big steps forward coming out of the All-Star break. As the second half of the season begins, teams are looking to solidify themselves just a couple months before the playoffs begin. 

And that's exactly what the Las Vegas Aces and star center A'ja Wilson did on Thursday night. Although the Aces had lost the last two games to the Liberty this season, including in the WNBA Commissioner's Cup Championship, Wilson scored 33 during a 104-99 home victory. 

But of course, the win didn't come without drama. With 17.9 left, the Aces had a 98-95 lead. It appeared as though Wilson had the last touch of a ball that went out of bounds. But the Liberty didn't have any challenges left, and the refs called it Aces ball. 

Wilson was able to go to the line and sink four free throws to seal the victory. She added 10 rebounds, six assists and two blocks on the night.  

With the win, Las Vegas was able to snap New York's three-game win streak, and the Aces are now 1-2 against the Liberty on the season. The Aces improved to 20-8  on the season, the same record as New York. The two teams will face each other again one last time on Aug. 9 in New York, in what could be a WNBA playoff preview yet again.

The Aces go on the road to face Chicago on Saturday, whereas New York travels to play the Mercury.
