Coaching staffs of college football teams across the country are gearing up for a busy summer of recruiting. The summer months are crucial for both players and coaches, as prospects fill the weekends with official visits to help them decide where they will play their college ball.
One big-time South Carolina target in five-star cornerback Joshua Dobson has removed an SEC school from his official visit list. On Tuesday, Dobson removed LSU from his visit list and plans to visit Michigan instead. The news was first reported by Chad Simmons and Steve Wiltfong of Rivals, and confirmed by Hayes Fawcett:
The good news for South Carolina fans is that the Gamecocks' June 19 visit remains locked in for June 19, the last of his summer visits, including LSU. Dobson will visit his final schools including Auburn on May 29, Texas A&M on June 5, Michigan on June 12 and Columbia the weekend after.
Earlier this month, Simmons reported that Dobson taking his last visit with the Gamecocks puts South Carolina in a solid spot to still land the elite cornerback.
But there have been predictions that put him ultimately landing at Texas A&M.
“South Carolina is very enticing for me,” Dobson told Simmons via On3. “It is simple with them — stay home. That is all they say. They emphasize it with me. They want me to be part of their program and they made sure they got the last official visit, so they get the last shot. The coaches are coming hard, and it is always great when I am there.”
Dobson is rated by 247Sports as the No. 3 overall cornerback for 2027, and the No. 1 overall prospect from his home state of North Carolina.
Obviously South Carolina remaining on Dobson's visit list is huge for the Gamecocks, who no longer have to compete against LSU and Lane Kiffin for his services for now. We'll see if Michigan can make a late run for the sought-after cornerback of 2027.
