The South Carolina Gamecocks are looking to stay red-hot on the recruiting trail. Although head coach Shane Beamer has added several blue-chip recruits to the Gamecocks' 2027 recruiting class, including five-star cornerback Joshua Dobson, his staff is hungry for more.Â
One big target for South Carolina is four-star safety Kennedy Green. The Douglasville, Georgia prospect has narrowed down his final three schools, including South Carolina, North Carolina and Mississippi State. He will announce his decision this Saturday, July 11, at 8 p.m. ET:Â
Douglas County (Ga.) safety Kennedy Green took three official visits to South Carolina, North Carolina and Mississippi State. He will announce his decision on Saturday between those finalists.

Green is rated by the 247Sports Composite as the No. 32 overall safety in the class of 2027, and the No. 40 ranked prospect out of his home state of Georgia. He took visits to all three of his final schools in recent weeks, including to South Carolina on May 1, with UNC and head coach Bill Belichick on June 10 and Mississippi State on June 19.Â
Why the Gamecocks could be a frontrunner in landing the blue-chip safety
As far as predictions go, 247Sports and Rivals are split on where Kennedy might end up. 247 gives Mississippi State a 100% chance to land the safety, whereas Rivals has South Carolina with a 93% chance. As a safety he is primarily being recruited by longtime Gamecock defensive backs coach Torrian Gray. But one big reason South Carolina might end up landing the safety? How many defensive backs the Gamecocks have sent to the league.Â
"The development aspect of it," Green said via 247Sports of the biggest factors influencing his decision. "I want to go to a school and be developed. I don't want to be the same kid. I want to go get developed. Faith in the scheme, what do they want me to play, what do they see me playing.
"If my opportunity is there, I think I'll be able to reach my dream, which is going to the NFL."Â
South Carolina and Coach Gray certainly have an edge in that department. In April, the Gamecocks saw two former defensive backs drafted in cornerback Brandon Cisse go in the second round to the Green Bay Packers, and safety Jalon Kilgore going in the fifth round to the Buffalo Bills. Gray has been at South Carolina for the last six seasons, and has coached the likes of Brandon Flowers, Kam Chancellor, Kyle Fuller and Kendall Fuller at Virginia Tech; Teez Tabor, Marcus Maye, Quincy Wilson at Florida and Cam Smith, Darius Rush and Nick Emmanwori in Columbia.Â
On Saturday, Kennedy isn't the only announcement Gamecock fans will also be eagerly waiting for. South Carolina is also a finalist for four-star linebacker Mikah Allen, who will be choosing between the Gamecocks, Texas and Texas A&M at 5:30 p.m. ET on the same day.Â
If South Carolina lands a commitment from Kennedy, he will join four-star safety Davion Jones in the 2027 class. Jones is also a high school teammate of cornerback Joshua Dobson.
