South Carolina football fans have been pretty satisfied with new offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains in 2023. Sure, there have been a handful of games in which the Gamecock offense wasn’t good enough, but most of that had to do with offensive line issues (both injuries and poor play).
Loggains has been an upgrade over previous OC Marcus Satterfield in a big way. Satterfield was stubborn with his insistence on implementing an NFL-style scheme with NFL-level terminology, and his college-aged players were not ready for that. He refused to adapt until it was too late, and he ended up “resigning” to take the same position at Nebraska.
The Gamecocks averaged about 350 yards of offense per game during the Satterfield tenure, and, despite a significantly tougher schedule in 2023 and a historically injured offensive line, the Loggains-led unit is hovering around 380 yards per game.
Many South Carolina football fans already know this, but things are going so smoothly for Satterfield in Lincoln this season.
The Cornhuskers are 121st in the country in points per game (18.7), and they average just 317 yards per contest (114th in the nation). Their 31 turnovers are the most in college football. In fact, that number is the worst in college football in over a decade.
The Huskers’ 27 touchdowns in the worst in over ten years for Nebraska football, and their 9 passing touchdowns are 7th-worst in the country. Big Red has scored 30 points just twice (over hapless Purdue and Northern Illinois), and they’ve been held to 20 or fewer points on 9 occasions.

In other words, Nebraska’s offense has been horrible all season.
Satterfield is the quarterbacks coach, as well, and Nebraska quarterbacks are viewed as some of the most underperforming players in all of college football this season.
One of the worst offensive performances of the year came on Black Friday against Iowa. A record-setting low over/under point total of 24.5 was in play for the game, and Nebraska lost 13-10 in humiliating fashion.
Nebraska fans are over the Marcus Satterfield experience.
Frankly, when head coach Matt Rhule hired Satterfield to Nebraska, South Carolina football fans tried to warn Husker fans of the incoming disaster.
It will be interesting to see if he will have a job by the end of next week.
