South Carolina Football: Former Gamecock OC struggles again against Deion Sanders and Colorado
By Kevin Miller
South Carolina football has a new offensive coordinator in 2023 as Dowell Loggains replaced the much-maligned Marcus Satterfield who stumbled aimlessly through two years in Columbia until Shane Beamer put training wheels on his offense toward the end of 2022.
This offseason Satterfield was hired by new Nebraska Cornhusker head coach Matt Rhule to be the red and white’s offensive coordinator. Satterfield and Rhule coached together with the Carolina Panthers, as well.
Satterfield’s first game with Nebraska was a massive struggle as his offensive unit scored just 10 points, with 7 of them coming as a result of a touchdown scored on a busted trick play.
Coach Satt’s new group put up just over 100 yards passing (34 of them coming on the one trick play) in the week 1 loss.
In week 2, Nebraska met up with the darlings of the early 2023 college football season as Coach Prime, Deion Sanders, and the Colorado Buffaloes hosted the Cornhuskers in Boulder, Colorado.
Things didn’t go any better for Satterfield in his second attempt at calling plays for Nebraska.
Big Red put up a goose egg again through two quarters, marking two straight games with no Nebraska points in the opening half. They did manage to score a touchdown in the 3rd quarter, but it came on a horribly-defended 2nd-and-17 draw play that went 50+ yards through the Buffalo defense.
Helping the cause just a little, the ‘Husker backups added a score in garbage time against the backups from Colorado in the 36-14 loss.
The biggest problem on the field for Nebraska is the quarterback position as Jeff Sims has been downright atrocious. He leads college football with 7 turnovers through two games. Who coaches the quarterbacks in Lincoln? That is also Marcus Satterfield.
While the pseudo-posttraumatic stress might be starting to set in for those in Columbia, take heart, South Carolina football fans: Marcus Satterfield is Nebraska’s problem now.
