South Carolina football fans had a bit of a roller coaster of a weekend.
The weekend started well with news of a lot of major recruiting targets being on campus. Then, things soured with the Gamecocks’ loss to the Florida Gators. The following day, though, more recruiting news helped brighten the dark skies around Columbia when 4-star cornerback Jalewis Solomon completed his flip from Auburn to the South Carolina football program.
Now, just a few days later, one of the other Gamecock football targets on campus this weekend got a well-deserved bump in the recruiting rankings.
Marshall Pritchett, a tight end from Charleston, South Carolina who has since moved from Porter-Gaud School to Georgia to play for Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School, has seen his stock rise in a big way over the last week.
Pritchett is a long athlete at the tight end position. At 6’5″ and 210, he is thin and resembles a bigger wide receiver in the early parts of his junior year of high school. However, with his solid frame and two more years of growth before reaching a college weight room, he will grow into a tight end.
As a player, Pritchett has impressive projectability as both a receiving threat and as a blocker at the tight end spot. The Gamecocks will be losing their top two tight ends over the next two seasons, meaning that USC will provide plenty of opportunities for young tight ends to play, whether they are on the roster now or future Gamecocks.
Pritchett’s recruitment is still wide open. He has an older brother (Lawson Pritchett) who is a class of 2024 safety/linebacker prospect with lower-level FBS offers.
