South Carolina Football: Multiple Gamecock commitments make high school all-star game
By Kevin Miller
The South Carolina football team has a large amount of young talent on the roster, and even more reinforcements will be on the way after another promising signing class makes its way to Columbia.
According to On3, the South Carolina football program has the 11th-best recruiting class in the country based on average rating of committed players. 247Sports’ rankings also put the Gamecocks in 11th in average rating of commitments.
5-star EDGE player Dylan Stewart, a Washington DC native, is the crown jewel of the class, but he is far from the only highly-touted prospect who has pledged his services to Shane Beamer and the Gamecocks.
Several of these elite recruits are from the state of South Carolina and were selected to a prestigious all-star game to represent their home state.
On Sunday, the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas announced the rosters from both South Carolina and North Carolina, and four Gamecock commitments were among the players selected for the game.
Dillon High School offensive tackle Josiah Thompson, a consensus high 4-star prospect, committed to the Gamecocks in April.
Woodland High School offensive tackle Kam Pringle, another consensus high 4-star prospect, joined the Gamecock class in January.
West Florence High School safety Kelvin Hunter, a 4-star prospect according to three of the four major recruiting services, became part of the 2024 class in April.
Greenville High School offensive lineman Blake Franks pledged his services to Shane Beamer’s South Carolina football program in March.
South Carolina wide receiver commitment Mazeo Bennett likely would have been chosen for the game, as well, but there is a limit on how many players from one school can play in the Shrine Bowl. Greenville High School offensive line teammates Franks and Julius Tate were also selected, reaching the two-player-per-school limit. Bennet likely will make the North-South All-Star Game.
Gamecock target D’Nas White made the Shrine Bowl on the North Carolina team.
The entire list of Shrine Bowl participants can be read here. The game will be played on December 16th at Spartanburg High School.
