Dawn Staley’s South Carolina basketball program still has some open scholarships for the 2023-2024 season. In an effort to replace the outgoing 8 scholarship players from last year’s team, freshmen MiLaysia Fulwiley, Tessa Johnson, and Sahnya Jah are joined by transfers Sakima Walker and Te-Hina Paopao.

With the open scholarship spots, it is unclear if coach Staley will add more to the roster for this season or save them for the 2024-2025 season. In the past, Staley has shown a willingness to reserve some roster spots for the future.

South Carolina basketball has just one commitment so far in the class of 2024. 5-star guard Madisen McDaniel pledged her services to Dawn Staley’s Gamecocks earlier this month. In recent weeks, 5-star prospects Mackenly Randolph and Jaloni Cambridge have named Staley’s program as a finalist, as well.

On Tuesday, another 5-star recruit named the South Carolina basketball team as a finalist to receive a commitment. Grand Prairie, Texas product Adhel Tac named the Gamecocks one of four finalists. South Carolina is joined by Georgia, North Carolina, and Louisville on Tac’s final list of suitors.

As a player, Tac is a true center. At 6’5″, Tac has rare size for the women’s game, and she uses it well. Tac is an expert at using her size and length to be in good position for rebounds and blocked shots. While not overly skilled as a scorer, Tac gets her fair share of buckets anyway with her size and tenacity.

Tac is a better athlete than most high school players her size, and she uses that athleticism to run the floor well and get off the floor for second attempts at rebounds or blocked shots. Her game is reminiscent of 6’7″ Gamecock post player Kamilla Cardoso.

Previously ranked much lower, Tac has shot up the recruiting rankings, and in the latest update to ESPN’s HoopGurlz 100, she has risen all the way up to #33 in the rankings. The top-30 players in the country are considered 5-star prospects, so it is certainly within the realm of possibility that she becomes a 5-star before the last rankings are finalized.
