South Carolina Basketball: Big-time 4-star prospect names Gamecocks finalist
By Kevin Miller
South Carolina basketball has just one player committed in the class of 2024. Versatile forward Okku Federiko can do a lot of things on the floor and can play next to any other type of forward thanks to his size (6’8″ and 200 pounds) and athletic profile. The 3-star is a former teammate of fellow Finnish player and current Gamecock freshman Morris Ogusuk.
Lamont Paris and his South Carolina basketball staff are in on a number of players in the ’24 class, and the Gamecocks will need to land a significant amount of them in order to replenish a roster that is going to lose at least five seniors (and three more will be finishing their 4th years of college basketball).
One of the major targets in the class is Charlotte product Bishop Boswell. Boswell is a consensus 4-star point guard who is ranked as high as 50th overall in the country by On3.
On Friday, Boswell announced his top-6 schools.
South Carolina, Georgia, Xavier, Wake Forest, Missouri, and Tennessee made Boswell’s list. With the Gamecocks a little late to the party in their recruitment of Boswell, it could be a good sign that he still included them in his top-6.
Physically, Boswell mirrors the size of current Gamecock point guards Ta’lon Cooper and Morris Ugusuk, so it appears Lamont Paris has a “type” that he looks for with his floor generals. The 6’4″ point guard has toughness, defends well with strength and long arms, and can score in the paint. He is not afraid to shoot, but the jump shot is a work in progress.
The Gamecocks are also heavily involved with Columbia natives Cam Scott (5-star wing) and KJ Greene (4-star combo guard), another South Carolina native in point guard Elijah Crawford (4-star point guard), and several other players.
South Carolina basketball fans who follow recruiting should see the Gamecocks turn the heat up on some forwards soon as the team is losing at least three of their top-6 bigs after next season, and Paris and company seem to have already established their targets at guard.
