South Carolina Football: 4-star running back announces college choice
By Kevin Miller
Just a week after South Carolina football commitment Matthew Fuller was bumped up to a 4-star by On3 (he was already a 4-star running back according to ESPN), fellow 4-star Gamecock running back target Braylen Russell was set to announce his commitment.
Russell, a Denton, Arkansas native, was previously committed to Arkansas and was set to decide from a final three of South Carolina, Arkansas, and Tennessee (who just got busted by the NCAA for a massive cheating scandal).
The 240-pound brick house of a running back has connections to all three schools, including that he was recruited to Arkansas by current South Carolina football offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains. All three schools in contention for Russell already have at least one 4-star running back committed in the class of 2024.
On Friday evening, the talented ball carrier made his public commitment in a small ceremony that was live-streamed over social media.

In the end, Russell re-committed to the Razorbacks and will be staying home to play for Arkansas.
The Gamecocks are still in need of signing at least one more running back to go along with Matthew Fuller in the class of 2024. Only one scholarship running back on the South Carolina football roster is an underclassman (incoming freshman DJay Braswell), and the Gamecocks need depth desperately at the position.
South Carolina football is still in the game with 4-star running back Daniel Hill who is deciding between South Carolina and Alabama when he makes his commitment in August. Southern Cal, Mississippi State, and Tennessee are his other finalists, but most who follow recruiting believe his recruitment to be a two-team race between the ‘Cocks and the ‘Tide.
If Russell’s commitment to Arkansas sticks, and things don’t go South Carolina football’s way with Daniel Hill’s commitment next month, the Gamecocks have been in contact with other backs, such as Florida product D’Marius Rucker.
