South Carolina football has been in the game on what seems like a never-ending list of blue chip wide receivers in the 2024 recruiting cycle. Greenville High School product Mazeo Bennett is the lone commitment in the class so far at the position, but the Gamecocks are deeply involved with a number of others.
4-star pass catchers Jonathan Paylor and Keylen Adams are set to make their commitments in July, and both receivers have called South Carolina football the leader recently in their recruitments. Paylor is also considering NC State, North Carolina, Maryland, and Penn State, while Adams is deciding between South Carolina, Alabama, Ohio State, Virginia Tech, and Pittsburgh.
The Gamecocks have been viewed as the team to beat for Paylor for quite some time, while Adams appears to be deciding between Carolina, Alabama, and his home state Virginia Tech Hokies.
Another big-time target at the receiver spot is Parker Livingstone. Livingstone is from Texas and has several typical Texas-kid schools in his top-5. The Texas Longhorns, Texas A&M Aggies, LSU Tigers, and Arkansas Razorbacks are four of his five finalists. However, the South Carolina football program also made Livingstone’s top-5, and many believed the Gamecocks to be in his top-2.
However, on Saturday, the Lovejoy product announced his commitment to a school other than the University of South Carolina.
The 4-star receiver made the decision that had become increasingly more likely in recent weeks when he committed to the University of Texas and coach Steve Sarkisian.
In the end, the allure of playing for the Longhorns was too much for the in-state kid, and Livingstone will wear burnt orange and white in his college future.
Livingstone’s decision does not take the South Carolina football staff by surprise. While there were times during his recruitment at which the Gamecock coaches felt good about their chances to land the talented athlete, they always knew they were fighting an uphill battle against the other four schools on Livingstone’s final list, particularly the home state Longhorns.
Keylen Adams will announce his college choice on July 13th, and Jonathan Paylor is set to commit on July 28th.
