South Carolina football just wrapped up arguably its biggest June official visit month in recent memory. Some of the top high school talents in the nation visited the University of South Carolina to see what Gamecock football was all about, and Shane Beamer and his staff made quite the impression on a number of these prospects.
At this point, at least five players have pledged their services to the South Carolina football program since the start of the month. 5-star punter/placekicker Mason Love, 4-star running back Matthew Fuller, 3-star linebacker Fred “JayR” Johnson, and two unannounced #WelcomeHome commitments have joined the class of 2024 so far, and more could be on the way.
The final official visit weekend of the month saw elite talents like Dylan Stewart (5-star EDGE), Jonathan Paylor (4-star wide receiver), Daniel Hill (4-star running back), and David Bucey (3-star safety/linebacker) making their big trips to Columbia.
All four have called South Carolina football the leader in their recruitments at least once during the process, and the Gamecocks are among the final teams vying for each prospect.
One of these priority visitors couldn’t wait to talk positively about his experience from this past weekend.
According to Phil Kornblut of Sportstalk Media Network, Daniel Hill said that the Gamecocks were “number one as of right now” concerning his college choices.
He also shared that South Carolina football was one of three main finalists along with Alabama and Tennessee (Hill had announced a top-8 a couple of weeks ago that also included Auburn, LSU, Penn State, Mississippi State, and Michigan).
Hill could be a difference maker at a position of need for the Gamecocks. Only one current running back on the South Carolina roster is an underclassman, so it is expected that USC will take at least two backs in the class of 2024.
Matthew Fuller is already in the boat, and Hill is the top target left on the board. 4-star Arkansas native Braylen Russell and 3-star Florida back D’Marius Rucker are also involved somewhat with the Gamecocks.
