South Carolina Football: #WelcomeHome x2; Beamer tweets out second commitment of the day
By Kevin Miller
Early Monday afternoon, South Carolina football coach Shane Beamer tweeted out his customary #WelcomeHome to let the fanbase know that a prospect just let him know he was committed to the Gamecocks. Gamecock Nation speculated heavily about which recruit it could be, but they barely had time to do any research before Beamer hit them with another bombshell.

Beamer tweeted out a GIF of former quarterback Dylan Thompson celebrating with the caption “And another one” with the hashtag “#WelcomeHome” to indicate another prospect pledged himself to the South Carolina football program.
For those not good at math, Beamer made sure to add the note that one commitment around 1:00 plus one commitment around 4:00 equals two commitments for the day.
There are numerous prospects who seem as if they could be on commitment watch, but based on Beamer’s tweet from the first commitment of the day, it appears that (at least) the first commitment came in from one of the visitors during the big official visit weekends in June.
Running back Matthew Fuller and linebacker Fred “JayR” Johnson seemed like the most likely #WelcomeHome candidates as both players were on campus last weekend and seem to really like the Gamecocks. Carolina also is the biggest offer for both prospects.
However, a couple of hours after Shane Beamer sent out the second #WelcomeHome tweet, one of the two commitments made his identity known.
5-star punter and placekicker Mason Love has committed to the Gamecocks. According to Kohl’s Kicking, the Missouri native is the 4th-ranked punter in the country, and he is also rated as a top-20 placekicker.
June has been a big commitment month for South Carolina football under Beamer’s watch. Last season, seven different future Gamecocks made their pledges known to the Carolina staff. June of 2023 likely won’t include that many commitments as Carolina already has double-digit commits in the 2024 class, but the month is off to a pretty fast start.
The final weekend of June will also be a major official visit weekend. Most of the committed prospects in the 2024 class will be on campus, and several premier targets will be on hand to hear the recruiting pitches from both the coaching staff and their potential future teammates.
Headlining the list of uncommitted visitors for next weekend are Dylan Stewart (5-star EDGE), Jonathan Paylor (4-star WR), Daniel Hill (4-star running back), Jordan Thomas (4-star defensive tackle), and Walter Matthews (4-star tight end).
