Earlier this week, the South Carolina football staff got word that they were being included in the top-6 for another 2024 wide receiver prospect. Recent riser Joseph McVay, a 3-star prospect out of the state of Arkansas, has picked up his first Power-5 offers in the last three months. Purdue, Vanderbilt, South Carolina, Penn State, and Texas A&M have all extended scholarships his way.

McVay announced his top-6 through a graphic posted on Twitter by Rivals.com, the national recruiting outlet.

McVay’s top-6 included a mixture of smaller schools that have been recruiting him for a while and some of his newer, bigger offers. The talented wideout placed South Carolina, Vanderbilt, Penn State, Texas A&M, Texas-San Antonio, and Tulane in his final grouping.

At 6’1″ and 185 pounds, McVay has shown reasons to be optimistic about his future development. He has been extremely productive in high school (over 1500 yards and 20 touchdowns in his junior season) and is a smooth mover on the basketball court, as well. Despite not putting up great sprinting numbers, McVay has tested well in several jumping events in track and field, indicating that he has clear potential for growth in his overall explosiveness.

As his first Power-5 offer, Vanderbilt appears to be the favorite to land McVay as of now. However, as things so often do in recruiting, that can change.

In addition to McVay, South Carolina football is in on numerous receivers in the class of 2024. 4-star playmakers Jonathan Paylor, Parker Livingstone, and Keylen Adams appear to be the Gamecocks’ top targets out wide, and 4-star Zion Ragins is in the mix, too. Paylor has publicly called South Carolina football his leader for a while now, and Carolina clearly has moved up the list for both Livingstone and Adams in recent months.

The Gamecocks already have one commitment at the position in 4-star Greenville High School standout Mazeo Bennett.
