Roman Harper predicts South Carolina football win over Clemson
By Jacob Elsey
The South Carolina football team is gearing up for its first rivalry game against Clemson under the leadership of Shane Beamer. The first-year head coach has been able to turn things around over the second half of the season, pulling out huge wins over Florida and Auburn to land bowl eligibility.
Next up is a matchup versus the Tigers.
The Gamecocks enter the meeting as 11.5-point underdogs despite playing the game in the friendly confines of Williams-Brice Stadium where the team is 5-1 this season. While Vegas doesn’t see an upset brewing, one college football analyst is calling for it.
Roman Harper went on SEC Network this week to give his prediction for the upcoming rivalry week in the conference. Check out what he said about the Gamecocks below.
"“If? You mean when … South Carolina, I’m calling my shot, is going to win this game and might win by double digits. You’ve got to understand what they’re putting into this. My neighbor, his son goes to South Carolina and you know what he told his Dad? ‘You know what dad? I can’t make it Thanksgiving but for so long, because I’ve got to get back to Columbia and be ready to celebrate with my teammates and the rest of my classmates when we go in there and beat Clemson.”"
Harper is a former safety from Alabama, so you know he knows a thing or two about rivalries. If the Gamecocks pull a double digit upset like he predicts, you can bet that Shane Beamer will be in the running for SEC Coach of the Year honors. It would also be South Carolina’s first win in the Palmetto rivalry series since 2013 under Steve Spurrier.
Kickoff is set for 7:30 PM on Saturday night. Let’s see if Harper’s prediction comes to fruition.
