The South Carolina football team landed its second signature win of the season on Saturday by taking down the Auburn Tigers 21-17. The win secured South Carolina’s spot in a bowl game with just the rivalry matchup versus Clemson remaining on the regular season schedule.
The Gamecocks were certainly happy to pick up a huge SEC victory but the win was made much sweeter due to Auburn’s boasting a few team members with ties the South Carolina program.
Offensive coordinator Mike Bobo and his running back Tank Bigsby aren’t viewed in positive light by many South Carolina supporters. Both seemed committed to the Gamecock program at one time or another before ultimately opting to leave for Auburn.
Gamecock fans haven’t forgotten and they let the two know about it after the taking down the Tigers.
First was Bobo, who originally signed on with Shane Beamer to remain in Columbia as the team’s offensive play caller. Two days later, he attempted to use an Auburn job offer as a bargaining tool to up his annual salary. When Beamer declined, Bobo bolted for The Plains.
Gamecock fans had some fun on Twitter with Bobo’s return prior to the matchup and it only continued after the big win.
The final post above refers to Bobo’s not using his star running back in crunch time, a theme that’s been linked with the play caller since his days at Georgia. On a fourth and one play in the second quarter, Bobo opted to throw rather than hand the ball to his best player. Bigsby totaled over 160 yards on the ground Saturday night but was notably absent in that pressure packed situation. The failure to convert allowed South Carolina to tie the game at 14 just before the half ended.
Speaking of Bigsby, South Carolina fans gave the rusher a bit of ribbing, too, after the contest. Bigsby was once believed to be a silent pledge to the Gamecocks in 2019. After allegedly filming a commitment video in Columbia, Bigsby changed his tune, eventually signing with Auburn. He’s now 0-2 versus the Gamecocks.
South Carolina got the last laugh against both Bobo and Bigsby. They’ll try to keep that momentum rolling into a season ending rivalry matchup with Clemson on Saturday.
