South Carolina football: Fans react to Mike Bobo’s return
By Jacob Elsey
South Carolina football squares off against a familiar face this weekend in a matchup with the Auburn Tigers. Mike Bobo returns to Columbia for the first time after spurning the Gamecocks last offseason.
Bobo, who worked as the team’s offensive coordinator and interim head coach in 2020, quickly signed a contract extension to remain on staff following Shane Beamer’s hiring. Two short days later, he decided to use an Auburn job offer as leverage to up his salary price. When Beamer didn’t budge, Bobo bolted.
Folks around the Gamecocks program were notably upset with the swift departure and the coaching staff was forced to scramble to find his replacement. Beamer took an immediate jab at Bobo to the media but he doesn’t seem like one to hold on to grudges.
Gamecock fans are a different story, though.
Apparently, that animosity hasn’t completely left the South Carolina fanbase as they’ve taken to Twitter to get Mike Bobo’s name trending for all the wrong reasons.
Followers have been trolling Bobo by posting hilarious hypothetical digs about the former coach as his return to Williams-Brice Stadium quickly approaches. South Carolina will hope to get some revenge on Bobo for leaving them high and dry less than a year ago.
South Carolina is also looking to pick up their second consecutive win over the Tigers after winning last year’s meeting 30-22. That win snapped an eight-game losing skid in the series with Auburn. The game is set to take place at 7:30 PM on Saturday, airing on ESPN.
