South Carolina football: possible coordinator hires from new head coach
By Jacob Elsey
What coordinators could rumored coaching hire Shane Beamer bring to South Carolina football?
South Carolina opted to part ways with former head coach Will Muschamp a few weeks ago, just a day after the Gamecocks’ 59-42 loss to Ole Miss. The search for a new leader in Columbia began almost immediately, and now seems to be focusing in on a handful of specific candidates, with some garnering more interest than others.
Much of the sentiment surrounding the South Carolina football program seems to peg Oklahoma assistant head coach Shane Beamer as being the next leader of the Gamecock program, though it appears that Louisiana’s Billy Napier is still firmly in the mix.
There have even been some news sources saying that an agreement has already been met between Beamer and the South Carolina administration, leading to an inevitable marriage between the two parties.
With that being said, let’s assume that Shane Beamer will be walking the sidelines in Columbia next season. Who would be his top options for hires at the offensive and defensive coordinator positions?
Beamer has no head coaching experience, but he’s selling the fact that his time working with major college football programs would allow him to build on past relationships and bring in homerun hires at the assistant coaching openings. He would lead the program as more of a CEO, leaving play calling duties up to those more qualified.
Let’s look through a few possible options, in alphabetical order, for those coordinator roles, should the Gamecocks ultimately decide to go the route of Shane Beamer.
