South Carolina football may have its next head coach.

South Carolina parted ways with head coach Will Muschamp just two weeks ago, following  a third straight blowout loss to Ole Miss. Fast forward to Sunday, and the Gamecocks may just have his replacement.

Phil Kornblut, a local talk show host and journalist, tweeted out that Oklahoma assistant Shane Beamer will be the next head coach on the South Carolina sidelines.

"A source told us early Sunday morning the wheels are in motion for Oklahoma assistant head coach Shane Beamer to be #Gamecocks next head coach. According to our info, Beamer is prepared to accept a 4 year deal at 3 million per. We are assuming university president and board are on board with this but do not have outside confirmation on that. But based on our info, an announcement within the next couple of days is possible."

Beamer has been gaining momentum in the coaching search, having the backing of many former players within the South Carolina program.

Beamer, a former assistant on Steve Spurrier’s staff in Columbia, has coached with big time coaches throughout his career, including George O’Leary, Kirby Smart, Lincoln Riley, and his dad, Frank Beamer.

The Charleston native does come with a bit of risk, as he’s never had a head coaching job, but he has been with major Power Five schools that have been successful at the highest level of the sport.

This news hasn’t been announced by the university, so it remains speculation, but we could soon see a new leader at the helm with South Carolina football.
