The University of South Carolina has taken a significant step forward in its plans to transform Williams-Brice Stadium, receiving approval from the State of South Carolina Legislature’s Joint Bond Review Committee and the State Fiscal Accountability Authority. This approval allows the university to begin Phase I activities, which include schematic design and cost estimation.
Athletic Director Jeremiah Donati expressed gratitude for the committee’s support, emphasizing that the project will enhance USC’s national reputation, generate new revenue streams, and provide an upgraded game day experience for fans and donors.

The next milestone in the planning process is selecting a construction manager, with a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) set to be issued in the coming weeks. The university previously selected internationally renowned design firm Populous, known for its work on major sports venues worldwide, including projects for the New York Yankees, Kansas City Chiefs, and the English Premier League’s Tottenham Hotspur. A formal agreement with Populous is expected to be finalized soon.
The renovation will primarily focus on the stadium’s West Side, with enhancements also planned for the student section on the North Side. Planned upgrades include new premium suites of varying sizes and club seating options.
Jonathan Kelley, Senior Principal at Populous, stated that the firm is excited to work with USC, aiming to preserve the traditions of Williams-Brice Stadium while incorporating modern enhancements that will benefit the athletics department, the university, and the surrounding community.
USC Athletics will continue to provide updates as the design process progresses, ensuring transparency and community involvement throughout the project’s development.
