South Carolina's season has not been pretty. Assistant coaches have been shown the door. A blown 30-3 lead still hangs over the program . But none of that has shaken the loyalty of Cross High School standout Caden Ramsey, who doubled down on his pledge to South Carolina. He committed to the Gamecocks back on September 8, and while the Gamecocks currently sit at 3-7 with offensive coordinator Mike Shula and offensive lin coach Lonnie Teasley no longer on staff, the senior has not wavered for even a second. Ramsey spoke Wednesday at the South Carolina Basketball Coaches preseason media day at Brooklyn-Cayce, and his message was clear: he is locked in.
“South Carolina is home and definitely going to stay home, no matter how bad the record is or how they play,” Ramsey said. “I committed for a reason. They love me, and I love them. I’m 100 percent committed.”

Ramsey credited both Shane Beamer and assistant coach Shawn Elliott for building relationships strong enough to outlast the turbulence of the 2025 season. While the Gamecocks have lost two pledges in the 2026 class, Jamel Howse (decommitted) and Amari Thomas (flipped back to FSU), Ramsey represents loyalty. He has stayed in regular contact with the coaching staff in Columbia and has been to several games this season. Ramsey also plans to attend the Coastal Carolina matchup on Saturday and the following weekend's showdown against Clemson.
In the season where the stats and scoreboards have not been kind to South Carolina, Ramsey's loyalty is the kind of intangible that keeps a class together. For Shane Beamer and his staff, commitments like this are the glue to the future of Gamecock football.
