The South Carolina women's basketball team recently announced the addition of Wendale Farrow as assistant coach, filling the vacancy left by Winston Gandy's departure to Grand Canyon University.
“We struck gold in bringing Wendale into our Gamecock family,” Staley said in a news release about the hire. “He is an accomplished young coach who has been part of every aspect of successful programs, and that journey has made him a seasoned, complete coach from Xs and Os to player development to recruiting to community service. We’re excited to see the huge impact he will make on our team and Columbia.”
Farrow brings over ten years of coaching experience to Columbia, having worked in multiple conference programs. He boasts a resume of six NCAA Tournaments, two Elite Eight appearances, a Big Ten Regular-Season Championship, a Pac-12 Tournament title, and coaching eight WNBA Draft picks.
Most recently, he spent four years at the other USC (University of Southern California). Prior to that, Farrow served five seasons as an assistant coach at the University of California, Berkeley, helping the Golden Bears achieve three 20-win seasons and three NCAA Tournament appearances. His coaching career also includes a short stint at Vanderbilt during the 2015-16 season.
Farrow began his basketball career as a player at American River Junior College before transferring to Eastern Michigan University. After graduation, he stayed on as a graduate mentor, completing a master's degree in educational leadership.
Farrow is joining a seasoned Gamecock coaching staff and will bring his strong recruiting skills to Columbia.
