The South Carolina Gamecocks were awaiting who they were playing on Saturday afternoon in the first round of the NCAA Women's Tournament.

The Gamecocks have their first-round opponent, taking on the winner of the First Four game between No. 16 Samford and No. 16 Southern, who played on Thursday evening in Columbia.

The Jaguars prevailed, winning 65-53 on Thursday night. The Jaguars' Jaylia Reed and DeMya Porter combined for 31 points, as Southern won a First Four game for a second straight season.

Southern entered the NCAA Tournament riding a ton of momentum, having won the SWAC Tournament with a 73-56 win over Alabama State. The team is led by head coach Carlos Funchess, who has now led Southern to three NCAA Tournament appearances, previously in 2019 and 2023.

The Jaguars have been playing well throughout the back end of the season, going 9-2 from mid-February to this point. The Jaguars' leading scorer is forward DeMya Porter, who has 9.7 points per game, adding 5.1 rebounds per game, second on the team. Zaria Hurston leads Southern with 5.3 RPG, adding eight points per game.

South Carolina has never lost to a No. 16 seed as a No. 1 seed, so the Gamecocks will be heavily favored at home. In fact, DraftKings has South Carolina as a 52.5-point home favorite.

Saturday afternoon's game will tip off at 1 p.m., and air live on ABC.
