Where South Carolina's 2027 recruiting class ranks after a red-hot month of July

The Gamecocks landed several blue-chip recruits this past month.

The South Carolina Gamecocks are having a busy month as the calendar flips from July to August. In addition to making last-minute preparations for fall camp, which begins next week, July was also a huge recruiting month for head coach Shane Beamer and the Gamecocks. 

The fireworks got started on July 1, as five-star cornerback Joshua Dobson committed to South Carolina despite Texas A&M being the longtime favorite to land the highly-touted cornerback. Dobson is the highest-rated recruit in South Carolina's 2027 class, rated by the 247Sports Composite as the No. 1 overall prospect out of North Carolina, and 2027's No. 2 overall cornerback. 

But South Carolina didn't stop there. A day after Dobson's commitment, his Hough High School teammate, four-star safety Davion Jones also committed to South Carolina. He is a top-10 safety for 2027, and rated as North Carolina's No. 6 overall prospect. The Gamecocks' hot recruiting streak continued, as four-star offensive tackle Nate Carson committed to South Carolina on July 3. Three-star EDGE rusher Jayden Broadie, also out of North Carolina, committed to South Carolina on July 4. 

Coach Beamer and his staff kept some positive momentum from late June going, as the Gamecocks also landed blue-chips in cornerback Kelvin Millington and wide receiver Iveon Lewis, who flipped from Kentucky. 

Where South Carolina's 2027 class ranks nationally and inside the SEC

According to 247Sports, South Carolina's class ranked 30th overall in the nation. The Gamecocks check in right behind Kansas State (29th) and one spot above Curt Cignetti and Indiana at 31st. Rivals puts South Carolina's class a few spots higher, checking in at 25th nationally in front of Georgia Tech and one spot back from Cal.  

Inside the SEC, 247 has the Gamecocks at 12th overall in the conference, right behind Kentucky and Missouri, who are 10th and 11th, respectively. Rivals puts South Carolina's class at 11th overall inside the conference. 

While the momentum that South Carolina had in July is impressive, Coach Beamer has to continue the momentum going. 

"Recruiting is going well," Beamer said at SEC Media Days last week. "Will continue to go well. It was a great summer of visits in the month of June, and July has been a really good month of commitments for us. But we are far from done." 

We'll see if the Gamecocks can add to their 2027 class before South Carlina kicks off the 2026 season on Sept. 5 against Kent State.
