The new medical school is a key component of USC’s broader USC Next initiative, a 10-year master plan focused on expansion and modernization. The Health Sciences Campus will drive future growth in medical education and research.

As a part of the school's $300 million Health Sciences Campus in the BullStreet District downtown, the new facility will span over 300,000 square feet. It is planned to be completed by August 2027.

The Unversity's President, Michael Amiridis expressed how significant the new project will be for students and the surrounding South Carolina healthcare system. "This modern facility will not only provide a state-of-the-art space for education and research, but it also marks the first step in developing our comprehensive health sciences campus in the BullStreet District,” Amiridis said.

The new facility is aimed to attract select researchers, students, and faculty as it will feature advanced classrooms, research labs, medical simulation spaces, a health sciences library, and outdoor spaces for students.

Additionally, plans include a neurological care hospital and a brain health center adjacent to the medical school. These facilities will provide revolutionary treatment for brain and nervous system disorders, featuring the latest technology.

South Carolina governor Henry McMaster took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to express his excitement and pride for the evolutionary investment. "This facility will be a bright, shining beacon for our people, ensuring South Carolinians have access to world-class medical education and care,” McMaster said.
