Towson-South Carolina weather delay: When will the Gamecocks and Tigers resume?

The South Carolina Gamecocks were leading the Towson Tigers 24-3 on Saturday night early in the third quarter. But shortly after both teams got things rolling in the third quarter, a torrential downpour with lightning came over Williams-Brice stadium, prompting a weather delay. 

Here's the latest on the weather delay in Columbia, and when the game might resume. 

Towson vs. South Carolina weather delay

South Carolina had things rolling in the first half, as the Gamecocks led 17-3 at halftime. Both teams came out for the third quarter, and LaNorris Sellers kicked off the third quarter with a 56-yard touchdown drive to put his team up 24-3. 

But right after the drive, unfortunately for South Carolina, mother nature had other plans. Members of the media in the press box showed a ton of rain coming down in the stadium: 

Around 9:15 p.m. ET, South Carolina officially announced the game was in a delay.

Due to lightning in the area, the game was under a delay. NCAA rules state that until there has been no lightning or thunder for 30 minutes, the game cannot resume. The 30-minute clock also resets every time there is an additional strike or sound of thunder.

The good news is that Gamecock fans in the student section appear to be having plenty of fun in the rain:

For now, it appears as though this will be a lengthy delay, as there is plenty of weather in the area. 

We'll see if the game gets resumed. If the delay is lengthy enough, both teams could agree on forfeiting the game, or leaving the final score as is.
