Top-ranked transfer portal WR has South Carolina as a finalist for a landing spot
South Carolina football has been lucky not to have been hit too hard by the transfer portal, meaning not a lot of starters have made the announcement that they are leaving the Gamecocks. However, there have been a lot of backup pass-catchers that have entered the portal, meaning four wide receivers and three tight ends.
However, the Gamecocks could be in luck when it comes to wide receivers, as one of the top-ranked pass-catchers currently in the portal has narrowed down his top choices and South Carolina has found itself as one of them.
KC Concepcion signed and spent the last two seasons with NC State and put up solid numbers, but he definitely has more to give. His first season in 2023 was his best out of the two, where he had 71 receptions for 839 yards and ten touchdowns, averaging 11.8 yards per catch.
In 2024, Concepcion did take a bit of a step back but still put up solid numbers, especially with an NC State team that also took a step back this season. The sophomore pass-catcher has 53 receptions for 460 yards, six touchdowns, and averaged 8.7 yards per catch.
South Carolina has lost four receivers to the portal, but luckily, they should be retaining stars like Jared Brown and Nyck Harbor, but they still need support. Getting a receiver like Concepcion, who has solid hands along with speed for quarterback LaNorris Sellers, would be big.
Concepcion also can be a threat in the rushing game, as in 2023, he had 320 yards on 41 carries, but he took a step back in 2024 with 36 rushing yards on 19 carries. The Gamecocks are up against fellow SEC teams Alabama and Texas A&M, as well as ACC and Big 12 teams Miami, Florida State, and Colorado.
