A decision seems to be on the horizon for Cross High School standout Caden Ramsey. The three-star wide receiver, who is being recruited by South Carolina as a tight end, is getting closer to making a decision on where he plans to attend college. In an interview with TheBigSpur on Tuesday morning, Ramsey opened up about the recruiting process and how the Gamecocks have emerged as a serious contender. "I feel like I'm pretty close to where I'll figure it out, because they're kind of getting close, talking to me more, feel like family more," Ramsey said.
South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer and tight ends coach Shawn Elliot extended an offer to Ramsey back in June. And while the timing prevented Ramsey from making an official visit quite yet, he has remained in close contact with the South Carolina staff and is eager to make that trip to Columbia soon. “They call every day, and they text every day, Coach Elliott and Shane Beamer,” Ramsey said. “We were talking about an official visit.”
Ramsey, who has flashed potential as both a pass-catcher and physical blocker, could be a strong fit for the Gamecock offense. Other schools are actively recruiting Ramsey as a wide receiver, which is what he plays on his high school team. However, Ramsey's frame and versatility have positioned him as a priority tight end target for South Carolina.
As his decision time nears, the Gamecocks appear to be leaving a lasting impression. The extended offer comes as part of the program's continued efforts to lock in two high school tight ends for the 2026 season. If he commits, Ramsey would potentially be a complement to Jamel Howse, a four-star from Newberry. Howse has been committed to the Gamecocks since 2023.
