South Carolina women's basketball has done things and continues to do things that no other team does, and last night was no exception. In the Gamecocks' matchup against No. 9 TCU, junior forward Ashlyn Watkins had a highlight play that caught everyone's eye.
Watkins had the ball stolen from her on the offensive end, and TCU was driving but ended up pulling back because they didn't have the numbers. Watkins put her head down got back defensively, and ended up stealing the ball back for her own drive.
As Watkins drove down the court, when she got the basket, she didn't just go up for the easy open layup. Instead, she chose to dunk the ball and wowed everyone, even TCU fans, in the crowd.
There have not been a lot of women's basketball players who have dunked the ball, only eight, to be exact. Well, now nine as Watkins joins the ranks of women who have dunked the ball.
Fans all throughout college football lost their mind over this dunk by Watkins, not just South Carolina fans. They took to social media to share their excitement and amazement at this play by Watkins.
We all need to get back in the gym, and Ashlyn Watkins is just reminding us.
Watkins is definitely WNBA-bound if that is the path she chooses. Her defense is top-notch, and the offense is beginning to come along, I mean she just dunked, so that itself if going to attract eyes.
Of course, South Carolina is different, but now they are just getting better and better, and that is probably thanks to the loss against UCLA, it really gave the Gamecocks a reality check.
We all are going to need that poster please when it comes out.
This is an accurate depiction of every South Carolina fan when Watkins dunked that ball.
Took the words right out of my mouth.
Watkins was doing it all last night and she did what every coach loves to see. When a player turns the ball over, coaches want them to forget the mistake and go get the ball back and Watkins did exactly that. She turned the ball over, went and got a steal, and then did something amazing and dunked the ball on the other end.
There are just no words.
