A bizarre moment unfolded late in the first half of South Carolina’s matchup against Texas A&M, when what appeared to be a Texas state trooper walking directly into a group of Gamecock players walking out of the tunnel, then the officer turned around and began yelling at one of them.
The broadcast camera caught the entire interaction. As South Carolina players waited near the entrance to the field with :53 left in the second quarter, a state trooper moved through the tunnel, stepped straight toward them, brushed into one player, and then immediately spun back to confront him. The player never moved toward the officer and showed no reaction except a raised hand, seemingly signaling he wasn’t trying to escalate anything.
From the angle shown on ESPN, it appeared that the trooper, hat and all, walked straight into the path of the South Carolina players, then spun around, pointed his finger and started barking at the Gamecocks. The players looked visibly confused, even raising his hand in confusion, even taken aback, but remained composed and kept walking.
Any comments on this embarrassing behavior? @TAMUPolice 🤣 pic.twitter.com/BDxdkeqMDe

The situation was a split-second confrontation caught on the broadcast but caught the attention on social media with several fans calling the interaction unnecessary and unprofessional. When a team is simply trying to get lined back up to take the field out of the tunnel, the last thing anyone expects is a confrontation with stadium security.
But the Gamecocks didn't engage, didn't escalate, and handled it with poise, even though the moment was unexpected.
