South Carolina women's basketball continues to dominate with 60th straight home win
On a night when the team got the celebrate their National Championship win from last season with the fans at home, the South Carolina Gamecocks got to celebrate a pretty big milestone after the game.
When an opposing team comes into Colonial Life Arena to take on the women's basketball team, it is expected that the Gamecocks walk out of their home arena victorious. It has been almost four whole years since South Carolina walked off their home court on the losing end of the game.
The last time South Carolina lost a home game was December 3, 2020, when the Gamecocks fell to NC State. With tonight's win over Coppin State, South Carolina officially won their 60th home game in a row. The longest home court winning streak is 99 games, which was held by UConn before St. John's took them down. The Gamecocks already celebrated their 40th straight win over the weekend with their 40th straight win against NC State.
Fans may not have expected the home opener for the Gamecocks to be against Coppin State, but it is who was on the schedule, so they were going to celebrate as big as if they had welcomed a Caitlin Clark-led team into the arena.
The Gamecocks had five players in double digits against Coppin State, with MiLaysia Fulwiley scoring 23 points with four assists and Chloe Kitts scoring 19 points with ten rebounds, recording her first double-double of the season.
South Carolina walked away with the 92-60 win over Coppin State on the night where the Gamecocks third National Championship banner was revealed and the team was honored for their undefeated season.
The Gamecocks will have a quick turnaround as they get ready to welcome East Carolina to Colonial Life Arena in three days on Sunday, November 17 as they try to extend their home win streak to 61 games and their active win streak to 42 games.
