After UConn cut down the nets to celebrate their 12th National Championship title, the women's college basketball world was already buzzing with transfer portal news. But no move hit harder, or felt more personal, than what unfolded between two SEC powerhouses.
South Carolina filled a need in a big way by bringing the nation's top scorer, Ta'Niya Latson, from Florida State. It was a power move, but one that seems to have come at a cost, causing the rivalry between LSU and South Carolina to heat up.
Shortly after the Latson news broke, fans speculated that MiLaysia Fulwiley, the electric hometown star that many thought would be the future face of the program, would hit the transfer portal. And soon after, the rumors were true, Fulwiley announced her plans to enter the transfer portal.
However, the move stings extra deep. Fulwiley didn't just leave. She announced on Friday via social media that she is suiting up for the one team South Carolina fans love to beat the most, the LSU Tigers, and gunning for her old team come next season.
Fulwiley, who averaged 11.7 points per game off the bench as a freshman, now joins Kim Mulkey and her Tigers. She will pair up with Flau'jae Johnson and Mikaylah Williams, both of which averaged over 17 points per game last season. With Aneesah Morrow headed to the WNBA, Fulwiley's arrival is a massive boost for the Tigers.
The SEC rivalry was already intense between these two squads and coaches, but with Fulwiley flipping sides, the next South Carolina vs. LSU showdown just became personal.
