South Carolina takes care of business against Wofford now turns attention to Clemson
South Carolina fans weren't expecting to be stressed during the Gamecock's matchup against Wofford, but they found themselves almost pulling their hair out in the first half. At one point in the second quarter, Wofford made it a 14-9 game with just a few minutes left in the second quarter and South Carolina fans were wondering what was going on.
The Terriers are 5-6 in the FCS and should not have been able to find the endzone against the Gamecocks, but suddenly, it was a possession game in the second quarter, and that was the wake-up call the Gamecocks needed to pull it together and show Wofford who they really are.
After Wofford made it a possession game, quarterback LaNorris Sellers put the team on his back and led a two-minute drive to make it a 21-9 game heading into halftime with some big-time throws and some big runs from running back Raheim Sanders.
The second half is where the Gamecocks truly came alive and put on an offensive clinic and had a lead of 35-12 in the third quarter and at that point head coach Shane Beamer felt it was time to pull the starters and save them for the matchup against Clemson next week.
Even with the backups in, the Gamecocks were able to put points up on the board and win the game 56-12 to take care of business, especially on a day when chaos erupted in college football. The Gamecocks need to send the Florida Gators a fruit basket for handing Ole Miss their third loss of the season, and if Mississippi State can get the job done next weekend, the Gamecocks would be in a great spot when it comes to making the College Football Playoff.
This game was simply a game to get the starters some work in and prepare for the big matchup next week. The Gamecocks are set to travel to Clemson next week in what looks like will be a ranked matchup and could have some serious CFP implications. A win would put the Gamecocks ahead of the Tigers when it comes to the committee.
