The South Carolina Gamecocks softball team had a disappointing end to its 2026 regular season. Taking on the Alabama Crimson Tide on the road, the Gamecocks were swept in a three-game series by the Tide, losing the regular-season finale 4-3 on Saturday. With the three losses, South Carolina fell to 30-25 on the season with a 7-17 mark in conference play
Although the regular season may be in the rearview, the Gamecocks are not done playing on the mound. The SEC softball tournament begins on Tuesday, and South Carolina was given a No. 12 seed in the first round.Â
The Gamecocks will face No. 13 seeded Ole Miss in the first round. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. The Rebels finished the regular season with a 32-23 overall record, including a 6-18 mark in SEC play. Ole Miss closed out the regular season with a series win over Mississippi State at home. Lexington will play host to the SEC Tournament this year.Â
Tuesday night's game will mark the first time all season that these two teams have met. The last time the Gamecocks took on Ole Miss, South Carolina took two games in the series during the 2025 regular season. The winner of the matchup will face No. 5 Tennessee on Wednesday at 5 p.m. ET.
South Carolina will be making its 23rd appearance in the SEC Tournament, with Ole Miss making its 14th. The Gamecocks have won two SEC Tournaments in their history, in 1997 and 2000. South Carolina will look to make some postseason magic like it did last season, as the Gamecocks hosted a Super Regional, falling to UCLA. Â
Against Alabama on Saturday, South Carolina took a 1-0 lead in the second inning with an Arianna Rodi homerun and a two-walk run by Quincee Lilio to make it 2-0 in the second. But the Tide responded with a pair of walks with the bases loaded, adding three runs in the third and another in the 4th.Â
Although a Karley Shelton homer in the sixth made it a one-run game, that was all the offense Alabama let the Gamecocks have. The Gamecocks lost 3-2 to the Tide on Thursday night, with a close 0-1 loss to Alabama on Friday afternoon.Â
