The South Carolina Gamecocks might be busy preparing for the 2026 season opener, but that doesn't mean stopping on the recruiting trail. The Gamecocks coaching staff is busy recruiting for both the 2027 and 2028 class, and the staff extended an offer to a prospect from the latter recently.

South Carolina has officially offered 2028 offensive tackle Cooper Martenson, who is listed as a 6-foot-5, 285-pound tackle. The Peach State prospect  plays out of the Marist School in Atlanta, Ga. The offensive tackle confirmed his offer from the Gamecocks on his personal X page:

Cooper's high school is the alma mater of current Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay, as well as former NFL players in Anderson Russell and Patrick Mannelly.

South Carolina has several guys who can fill Jacarrius Peak's void for Week 1

Martenson has several big-time offers, including ones from fellow power-conference schools such as Boston College, Duke, Florida, Georgia, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, Tennessee and Texas A&M. He started racking up several offers this summer. Prior to South Carolina offering the Atlanta offensive tackle, head coach Mike Elko and Texas A&M offered him earlier this month.

While it is still very early in the OT's recruiting process, the state of Georgia is a recruiting hotbed for South Carolina. The Peach State has produced the second-most recruiting prospects for the Gamecocks outside of the state of South Carolina. The Gamecocks' 2027 class has three commits from the state of Georgia already, including running back Brayden Tyson, cornerback Kelvin Millington and receiver DJ Huggins.

Mortenson would be a great addition to South Carolina's 2028 class, which has two members and ranks 10th nationally, per the 247Sports Composite. The outlet does not have a recruiting ranking for the offensive tackle just yet.

The next step for Mortenson's recruitment to South Carolina is likely getting the offensive tackle on-campus for a visit sometime this fall.
