There has been a lot going on this week, and maybe keeping up with ACC Media Days, dissecting Rhett Lashlee's comments about the SEC, or reacting to the wave of celebrity news and passings has kept your attention from the important stuff. But while the world has buzzed elsewhere, one Gamecock legend was making moves...literally. ESPN's Ryan McGee dropped his definitive College Football Mascot Power Rankings, and yes, South Carolina's beloved mascot, Cocky, made the cut.
College football is a game of deep-running tradition. For years, beloved mascots have roamed the sidelines and stadiums, hyping up fans and celebrating their teams' successes. But how exactly do you rank a buckeye with legs against a large leprechaun? McGee tackled this head on (pun intended), breaking his list down into mascot categories and spotlighting the top five in each category.
The Mascot Power Rankings categories were: Costume Division, Mechanized Division, Human Division, and Live Animal Division. Cocky earned the No. 5 spot in the Mechanized Division, thanks to his legendary entrance on game day.
Representing the University of South Carolina with swagger, bounce, energy, and the biggest heart in college sports, Cocky isn't just a mascot, he is an experience. Whether Cocky is flapping his beak in Clemson or rolling into Williams-Brice Stadium on the garnet Cock-A-Boose to the sound of "2001," the South Carolina mascot is pure pageantry. Cocky has also escorted everyone to the field at Willy-B, from former Gamecocks-turned-NFL-players to former student-turned-country-singer, and he brings championship energy every time.
