As of June 2, 2025, South Carolina running back Rahsul Faison is still awaiting a decision from the NCAA regarding his eligibility for the upcoming 2025 college football season. Faison transferred from Utah State in January and submitted a waiver request for an additional year to play, citing his unique collegiate journey. Despite providing all of the necessary documentation since, the NCAA has yet to render a decision, and the frustration among coaches, players, and fans is growing.
Faison's case is based on the precedent that was set by the Diego Pavia ruling, where a federal judge allowed a player an extra year of eligibility due to time spent at a junior college. The NCAA's application of this rule, however, has been quite inconsistent, leading to uncertainty in Faison's situation.
South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer has expressed frustration over the delay, stating that the team has complied with all NCAA requests for documentations. In support of Faison, the football team hs adopted the rallying cry "Free 'Sul" during their workouts.
Faison's eligibility remains a critical concern for the Gamecocks as they prepare for the 2025 season.
