The South Carolina men's soccer team is undefeated, and Gamecock fans showed up for Friday night's game over in-state rival Clemson. The Gamecock men improved to 3-0 on the season with a 3-2 upset victory over No. 16 Clemson. In the 23rd minute, South Carolina got on the board first with an Angel Lopez goal to put the Gamecocks up 1-0.
Lopez scored again just over a minute later, scoring off a header assisted by his teammate Alejandro Velazquez-Lopez. The Tigers responded offensively following a penalty kick in the 39th minute shortly before halftime. Right after half in the 49th minute, South Carolina was awarded a penalty kick, which was given to Velazquez-Lopez.
He made it with ease, giving him his third goal of the season. Clemson did respond with a goal in the 52nd minute, but South Carolina's defense was able to hold on to the lead. Junior defender Arnar Adalsteinsson blocked a Tiger shot attempt that would have tied it, and South Carolina held on to get a huge victory.

Gamecock goalie Noah Scheidweiler finished the night with a season-high four saves on the night. Clemson finished with 18 shots on goal, South Carolina getting 13.
South Carolina fans showed up for the rivalry game, as Gamecock Nation set a new attendance record for men's soccer. The 7,671 fans that attended marked the largest crowd in the 49-year history of the men’s soccer program. It also marks an NCAA record for the highest attendance for a men's game so far this season.
South Carolina soccer has done well against Clemson so far this season, as the women took home a victory over the Tigers since 2018.
Next up, South Carolina will take on Charlotte on the road on Thursday, Sept. 3 at 7 p.m. ET.
