Sophomore forward Collin Murray-Boyles led the Gamecocks with an impressive double-double, recording 22 points and 10 rebounds before fouling out late in the game. This marked his eighth 20-point game and eighth double-double of the season. Guard Jamarii Thomas contributed 15 points, primarily from free throws, as South Carolina capitalized on their opportunities at the line, making 34 of 45 attempts. Additional support came from Zachary Davis and Morris Ugusuk, who added 12 and 10 points respectively.
The Gamecocks established control early, building a 40-22 lead by halftime—their largest halftime advantage of the season. Their defense effectively contained the Longhorns, limiting them to 40.4% shooting from the field. Despite a strong 29-point performance from Texas freshman guard Tre Johnson, the Longhorns were unable to overcome the deficit.
This victory not only ended a 13-game losing streak for South Carolina but also dealt a significant blow to Texas's NCAA Tournament aspirations. Prior to the game, the Longhorns were projected as a No. 10 seed; however, this loss to a previously winless SEC team is expected to impact their standing.
Looking ahead, the Gamecocks aim to build on this momentum as they prepare for their next matchup.
