The Gamecocks have made a major move in the transfer portal, landing Treysen Eaglestaff, a 6-foot-6 guard from North Dakota. Eaglestaff is a four-star transfer, ranked No. 26 overall and No. 6 combo guard in the portal.
Eaglestaff chose South Carolina over several powerhouse programs such as Kansas, Kentucky and Gonzaga. He put up impressive numbers last season, averaging 18.9 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.4 assists while shooting 41.6% from the field, 35.9% from beyond the arc, and 79.4% from the free-throw line.
Eaglestaff grabbed attention with his 40-point game, hitting eight threes. He followed that game up with a 51-point performance in the Summitt League Tournament. He will make a much-needed impact at South Carolina.
The Gamecocks need more support in the backcourt, lacking a consistent playmaker this past season. Eaglestaff could make an immediate impact.
“Coach said he wants me to get a bunch of threes up, and that’s one thing I’m trying to do,” Eaglestaff told TheBigSpur. “Just space the floor as best I can, try to make the play and shoot the ball. I think that’s the biggest thing when it comes to style of play at South Carolina. That’s one big thing Coach Paris emphasizes.”
Lamont Paris is building a dynamic and versatile backcourt that could elevate the Gamecocks to new heights.
