South Carolina may not have to face Brady Cook as the Tigers struggle with injuries
South Carolina has had their fair share of injuries throughout the season, so they have an understanding of what the Missouri Tigers are going through right now. The Gamecocks will most likely not face the Tigers' starting quarterback, Brady Cook, this weekend due to the fact that he is still dealing with a hand/wrist injury.
Cook was injured when playing against Alabama a few weeks ago and was out against the Tigers near loss to the Oklahoma Sooners last week. On the latest SEC injury report, the Tigers have listed Cook as doubtful for the game this weekend, which would mean if he can't go, South Carolina will face Drew Pyne.
Pyne has jumped around a lot in college football, which has become more normal in this day of college football. He played his first three years at Notre Dame, then spent a season at Arizona State before ending up at Missouri.
Against Oklahoma, Pyne was 14-for-27, throwing for 143 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran eight times for 15 times but was sacked three times. There is one thing about Pyne though that makes this game a bit more interesting.
When head coach Shane Beamer was still at Oklahoma as an assistant, Pyne was one of the Sooners' top quarterback prospects. As we all know, Pyne chose Notre Dame over Oklahoma, but Beamer was the one sent to go and try and recruit Pyne to the Sooners. While Pyne has most definitely grown and changed since high school, Beamer has a bit of knowledge on this backup quarterback.
The good news for the Gamecocks is that they should be coming into this game fairly healthy, with a small number of players already ruled out early in the week. The Gamecocks will be missing running back Matthew Fuller, offensive lineman Jakai Moore, and defensive tackle Nick Barrett. Moore has yet to play this season with his injury, and at this point, it is doubtful he will play at all the rest of the way.
South Carolina will get defensive tackle DeAndre Jules back in the lineup this week after missing three games, and safety DQ Smith and left tackle Josiah Thompson are questionable as of right now.
The Gamecocks had a few scares against Vanderbilt when star defensive players Kyle Kennard and Dylan Stewart both left the game with injuries, but luckily, they returned to finish the game and have no injury designation so far this week.
