The South Carolina Gamecocks are entering a critical part of the 2026 season, sitting at 2-0 and beginning SEC play against Mississippi State. The Gamecocks are coming off of a 45-9 victory over Towson, but unfortunately South Carolina is dealing with some injuries to a few key players.
Gamecock head coach Shane Beamer told reporters after the game that South Carolina is dealing with some injuries to wide receiver DJ Black, center Carter Miller and tight end Maurice Brown. Per Beamer, Black was dealing with a minor tissue injury, Miller was dealing with some back tightness and Brown exited Saturday night's game with a bruise.
On Sunday, Coach Beamer told reporters that although it is early, he is feeling optimistic about all three guys for now:
“As you guys know, we have an SEC availability report that we’ll release on Wednesday, but coming out of last night, no long-term concerns,” Beamer said on his teleconference via Gamecock Central. “All of the guys that didn’t play last night or the guys that left the game last night, I wouldn’t say that they’re 100 percent today, but certainly optimistic that they’ll be in good shape come Saturday. Nothing is more serious today than what we thought it was last night; we’ve just got to get them healed.”
Black did not play in the game against Towson, and Sellers struggled in his absence. He threw for a career-low 96 yards, and he wasn't on the page with several of his receivers, including Mazeo Bennett. In South Carolina's Week 1 win over Kent State, Black had three receptions for 62 yards, averaging 20.7 yards per catch.
South Carolina is listed as an early slight 3.5-point home favorite against Mississippi State. As far as injuries go, one of the biggest questions entering the Gamecocks this week is the status of left tackle Jacarrius Peak and EDGE rusher Dylan Stewart.
Although neither of them have played for the Gamecocks just yet, Beamer sounded optimistic last week when asked about them. He also added that both are practicing in full pads.
As for both guys, Beamer didn't exactly say they have both been cleared to play against the Bulldogs just yet.
“We’ll see where they are as the week goes,” Beamer said via GC. “But they’re certainly trending in the right direction.”
South Carolina's injury report will certainly be something to keep an eye on as the week progresses.
Saturday's game against MSU is set to kickoff at 3:30 p.m. ET.
