South Carolina Gamecocks triumph 5-3 over Sacred Heart in season opener

In their season opener on February 14, 2025, the South Carolina Gamecocks baseball team defeated the Sacred Heart Pioneers 5-3 at Founders Park. The Gamecocks secured the win with runs in the seventh and eighth innings.

  • Pitching Performance: Starter Dylan Eskew pitched five innings, allowing one run on three hits and recording nine strikeouts. Reliever Parker Marlatt earned the win, pitching 2.2 scoreless innings with five strikeouts, while Brendan Sweeney secured the save with a perfect ninth inning.

Mainieri brings a wealth of experience, having previously led LSU to a national championship and multiple College World Series appearances. His coaching staff includes associate head coach Monte Lee, pitching coach and recruiting coordinator Terry Rooney, and assistant coach John Hendry.

Mainieri's arrival signals a new era for South Carolina baseball, with the team aiming to build upon their 37-25 record from the 2024 season, which concluded in the NCAA Regionals.
