It's a busy time of year for South Carolina Gamecock fans. As the heart of the college football and NFL seasons heat up, both soccer programs are playing, and men's and women's basketball are gearing up for their upcoming seasons.

Bills S Jalon Kilgore still awaiting to make his NFL debut
The Buffalo Bills played their first-ever game in their brand new Highmark Stadium on Thursday night, taking on the Detroit Lions. The Bills won 41-31 in a final score that made the game feel closer than it actually was.
Although Buffalo drafted former Gamecocks Jalon Kilgore in the fifth round of April's draft, he has not played in the Bills first two games against Houston or Detroit. The rookie safety has been dealing with a hamstring, an injury he also battled during his Gamecock career.
Hopefully with a longer week after the Thursday night game, he can be ready to go in time for Buffalo's Week 3 game against Josh Herbert and the Los Angeles Chargers.
Gamecock football likely to have 2 of its biggest stars back vs. Mississippi State
South Carolina's football team starts SEC play this week, taking on the Mississippi State Bulldogs at home. The Gamecocks got some great news on Thursday evening, as head coach Shane Beamer said that barring any setbacks, both EDGE rusher Dylan Stewart and Jacarrius Peak will play.
The news is huge for South Carolina, who is matching up against talented Bulldog quarterback Kamario Taylor. Stewart has 11 sacks across his last two seasons, and Taylor has been able to avoid sacks through his first two games. Peak was the highest-rated player Coach Beamer signed from the transfer portal.
Dawn Staley, women's basketball reveals 2026-27 season theme
After coming up short in last season's national championship game against UCLA, Dawn Staley and the Gamecocks are rebuilding. The team plays under a new theme each and every season. This season's theme is "pro." Via the team's official release:
The theme is defined as a women’s basketball Gamecock shaped by preparation, discipline, accountability, leadership and an uncompromising standard of excellence; one who prepares like a professional, competes like a professional and carries herself like a professional before the title is ever given.
Beyond that, the theme lends itself to many themes central to the Gamecocks’ culture under Staley – the PROgram is the difference, trust the PROcess, PROgress never stops, PROdUction at South Carolina.
South Carolina enters the season with a stacked roster, consisting of returning stars in Chloe Kitts, Joyce Edwards, and Tessa Johnson. South Carolina also signed Texas transfer Jordan Lee and former five-star freshman Oliviyah Edwards.
Both ranked soccer teams look to win on the road
South Carolina's men and women's soccer programs have gotten off to hot starts to the season. The men's program is 6-0, and ranked No. 4 overall in the country. The team will go on the road to face No. 16 Old Dominion on Friday night at 7 p.m. ET. The game will stream live on ESPN+.
The women's soccer team, ranked No. 16 overall, also goes on the road to face the LSU Tigers. The game is available to stream on SEC+. The Gamecocks got off to a strong start to the season, currently sitting at 7-1.
