The South Carolina Gamecocks suffered a close loss to the Texas Longhorns, falling 66-62. South Carolina, ranked No. 2 with a record of 22-2, faced off against No. 4 Texas, which improved to 24-2 with the win.
For the Gamecocks, Chloe Kitts contributed 9 points on 4-9 shooting, along with 4 rebounds and 2 assists. Sania Feagin scored 7 points, shooting 3-7 from the field while grabbing 7 rebounds. Bree Hall added 7 points, making 2 of her 6 shots and hitting 2 three-pointers. Raven Johnson struggled offensively, going 0-5 from the field and scoring just 1 point, though she had 4 rebounds and 3 assists. Te-Hina Paopao recorded 8 points, shooting 2-9 from the field, including 2-7 from beyond the arc.
Off the bench, Joyce Edwards was a bright spot, scoring 9 points on 4-6 shooting and grabbing 2 rebounds. MiLaysia Fulwiley led the team with 13 points, shooting 4-9 and adding 3 assists. Tessa Johnson chipped in with 7 points, shooting 2-6 from the field and 1-3 from three-point range.
As a team, South Carolina shot 36.8% from the field (21-57) and 26.3% from three (5-19). They grabbed 36 rebounds and dished out 11 assists while committing 20 fouls. Despite a tough fight, the Gamecocks fell just short against a strong Texas team.
This loss is Dawn Staley’s squad first SEC loss of the season. The loss snaps South Carolina’s 57-game SEC regular season win streak.
